The Student Council at McKenna Elementary School in the Massapequa School District recently organized a schoolwide book drive to benefit the Book Fairies, a nonprofit organization that collects reading material for people in need throughout metropolitan New York. Students and staff generously donated gently used books from Jan. 29 through Feb. 2. McKenna was able to fill 26 boxes. Student Council members, under the direction of advisers Erin Rohan and Mary Ellen Scheffler, sorted the books into four categories — baby/preschool, elementary, middle and high school and adult.
